What makes us different?

  • The original Laps for Life idea came from Judith’s swimmers, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of patients battling cancer
  • More than 50% of the Laps for Life organization is youth and teens
  • Many Laps for Life events and programs are led by teens, providing a unique leadership opportunity for our youth
  • 100 Percent of funds raised at Laps for Life events go directly to cancer patients and their families

The Laps for Life Story

Judith Ann Girardi (JAG) was a life-long fitness advocate. Voted Athlete of the Year by her senior class, she participated in track, volleyball, softball, basketball, and swimming. After graduation, Judith became an athletic trainer and aerobics instructor. She had the physical and mental strength of a true athlete and was a model of determination.

After Judith started her family, her fitness focus shifted to kids and the pool. From 1997 to 2004 she spent thousands of hours with Central Ohio tots to teens, teaching and coaching swimming. Her "Can-Do" attitude was contagious. She taught the kids that rewards came in small accomplishments as well as great successes. She demanded a lot and gave back more.

In 2000, Judith was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  Throughout her four and a half year battle, she continued to train and coach both the Worthington and Wedgewood swim teams, leading more than 25 young athletes to qualify for the US Swimming Ohio State Champs, and winning two CCSL Summer League Championships.

The Laps For Life Foundation was formed in 2005 to celebrate her life, promote life-long fitness, and support cancer patients and their families. Contributions will be used for medical expenses, travel expenses, housing, meals, and other unforeseen costs to families during their battles against cancer.
